No-one thought that this book was a great masterpiece but most found it very readable and nearly all considered James to be a very believable and sympathetic character. However, the situation felt forced (it wasn't clear why he would send a message 7 hours before killing himself), the ending was weak and the portrayal of the Samaritans was concerning. Overall a very average book.
