Summary: Alma Cogan was Britain's biggest-selling vocalist of the 1950s. Burns' novel blends fact and fiction as he explores the relationship between public and private life. Our meeting at Trinity College seemed to reach agreement that this was a complex, mysterious and fascinating book. That said, it still left several of us a little bit cold (Gordon and Tom excepted), and wondering whether a re-read was required.
